Buffalo Hospital is taking maternity care to another level

The hospital began construction in Sept. 2009, to add a second story to make room for a new Birth Center. With this expansion, the Buffalo Hospital Birth Center will be four times larger and our patients and their families will immediately notice many impressive upgrades and new amenities.

"We've always been known for outstanding care provided by our doctors, nurses and support staff. The time has come to elevate the quality of our physical environment to meet the quality of the medical experience at Buffalo Hospital," says Jennifer Nelson, Buffalo Hospital president.

Designed to comfort moms and celebrate new beginnings

Spacious delivery rooms, post partum rooms and inviting family areas will give the Birth Center an ambience similar to what you would find in a luxury hotel. Other post partum room upgrades include a soaking tub, flat-screen TV, refrigerator, rocker and plenty of room for families to gather and celebrate.

The new Birth Center also will include two spacious and accommodating family lounges - including play areas for siblings and space for the hospital's lactation specialists to counsel breastfeeding mothers and an expanded Level II Nursery for babies born prematurely.

"The expanded Level II Nursery will offer the necessary accommodations to provide specialty care to a greater number of premature babies," says Cindy Oquist, Birth Center manager. "Providing this level of specialty care allows mom and baby to stay together right here at home."

Your gift can help

The new Birth Center is a $7.1 million investment in our community. Allina Hospitals & Clinics committed $6.1 million to build the new Birth Center. Buffalo Hospital Foundation is raising the remaining $1 million.

"We are baby steps away from reaching our goal, with more than $700,000 in gifts to date," says Karla Heeter, executive director, Buffalo Hospital Foundation. "The support has been amazing, including gifts of $225,000 from Buffalo Clinic P.A., $150,000 from Buffalo Hospital employees, $75,000 from Minnesota Neonatal Physicians P.A. and nearly $50,000 from the Buffalo Hospital Board of Trustees, Foundation Board and hospital volunteers and more than $100,000 from community members who care about Buffalo Hospital."

A gift of any size will make a difference. Help support a new Birth Center by making a tax-deductible donation. Mail a check to Buffalo Hospital Foundation, 303 Catlin St., Buffalo, MN 55313 or call 763-684-6800 to discuss giving options.
